Spun (2002) Not for the Faint of heart
First and foremost if you have ever thought about doing drugs or perhaps you already have a drug problem you should watch this movie. This movie was rated R for Pervasive Drug Content, strong sexuality, language and some violence.
In the genre of drug movies, this one has to be in my opinion one of the best. The aesthetics are right on. The gritty, filthy, discordant, atmosphere that crustates around the typical meth head's life feels genuine in appearance. John Leguizamo and Mena Suvari are dead on in their portrayals of two dysfunctional people in a relationship mixed with sex, love and drugs (or more appropriately, love FOR drugs). Micky Rourke, as always, conveys a menacing presence with his own cool style. Brittany Murphy is continually a pleasure to watch and even the cops are great.
The whole package gives the feel of being right there, not to mention a "healthy" dose of delusional hallucinations for you to chew on in between heart palpitations.
If your looking for a great "druggie" film with a comedic undertone, this is it.
